Overview
57th Street Salon has been serving Hyde Park from East 57th Street for years, with a loyal client base built almost entirely on referrals. The brief was simple to say and harder to do: make it as easy to book online as it is to walk in. I designed and built a site that puts appointments first, shows the work honestly, and gives the salon a shop front for its retail products.
The problem
Clients called to book, and calls went unanswered whenever the stylists had their hands in someone's hair. New clients had no way to see prices, service times or previous work before committing, and the products sold at the front desk were invisible to anyone not already in the chair.
- Phone-only booking, with missed calls during every busy period
- No published service list, pricing or duration
- Retail products sold in-salon only
- Opening hours and location hard to find online
My process
I mapped the salon's services with the owner (relaxers, braids, natural hair care, colour, treatments) and grouped them the way clients ask for them rather than the way a price list is usually written. Opening hours and the address sit in a bar at the very top of every page, because that is what a first-time visitor checks first. Everything else funnels toward one action: Book Appointment.
- Service and pricing audit with the owner, then reorganised into client-facing categories
- Persistent hours and address bar plus a red Book Appointment button in the header
- Gallery built from real client work rather than stock imagery
- Deep red and cream palette taken directly from the salon's existing signage
Building it
Online booking is wired into the site so appointments land in the salon's calendar without a phone call, and a small WooCommerce shop lets clients buy the hair-care products they already trust. I kept the admin simple, because the people updating it are stylists between clients, not web editors.
- Integrated appointment booking with automatic confirmations
- WooCommerce storefront for retail hair-care products
- Mobile-first responsive build with accessible contrast and readable type
- Local SEO and business schema so the salon shows up in Hyde Park searches
- Blog for hair-care advice, supporting search visibility over time
The outcome
Bookings now arrive around the clock instead of only when someone can reach the phone, and new clients turn up already knowing the service, the price and roughly how long they will be in the chair.
