Youth Be Involved
A bright, energetic platform for a youth civic-engagement movement, built to turn interest into membership.

Overview
Youth Be Involved is a community organising young people around political participation and civic change in Nigeria. They were doing the work in person and on WhatsApp, but had no home online where a young person could learn what the movement stands for and join it in the same visit. I designed and built that home.
The problem
The organisation had momentum offline and nothing to convert it. Interested young people heard about a project at an event, then had nowhere to follow up. Funders and partners had no way to see the projects, the news or the scale of the community.
- No central place to explain the mission or show past projects
- Sign-ups collected manually at events and lost afterwards
- Nothing to show partners, sponsors or the press
My process
The audience is young, mobile and sceptical of anything that looks institutional, so the design deliberately avoids the muted, formal look most civic organisations default to. I built the identity around the Nigerian green-and-white with a confident yellow accent, commissioned flat illustration instead of stock photography, and wrote the homepage so the mission lands in one sentence: young people on the rise.
- Defined the tone with the founders: direct, hopeful, never lecturing
- Chose bold typography and an illustration style that reads as youth-led, not government-led
- Structured the site around Projects, News and Feeds so activity is always visible
- Made 'Join Us' the single repeated action across every page
Building it
Built on WordPress so the team's volunteers can post news and project updates themselves. Membership sign-up feeds a managed list instead of a notebook, and the news and feeds sections keep the site looking alive between campaigns, which matters as much to funders as it does to members.
- Membership sign-up flow with a managed contact list
- Volunteer-friendly publishing for news, projects and event feeds
- Mobile-first, lightweight build tuned for slower connections
- Accessible colour contrast and descriptive alt text on all illustration
- On-page SEO so the movement is findable by name and by cause
The outcome
The organisation finally has one link to give out (at events, in the press, to funders) and interest that used to evaporate after a conversation now ends in a sign-up.
